Referee

Become Referee

Give back to the game – learn the laws of the game – you get paid to referee

We are always looking for new referees to officiate at games, from Pathway games (U8 – U12) through to Seniors. You can referee once or twice a weekend, once a month, or only as a fill-in if you would rather. You can referee games near your home or where you or your family members/friends etc will be playing that day – we are completely flexible around you and your commitments!
New referees will be heavily supported by fellow referees, clubs, schools and the ACTJRU, and if you are concerned about getting started, you can first try Assistant Refereeing on the sideline, or refereeing Junior games as you build your confidence.

If you haven’t refereed before we have courses to teach you all about refereeing a game of rugby. For those who have played rugby, this is an excellent opportunity to give back, or to stay involved in the game after your playing days.

If you have previously been a referee and would like to take up the whistle again, please contact the ACT Rugby Referees Association (ACTRRA) as discuss how to get back on the field.

We need as many people as possible to service games in the ACT and its surrounding regions.

Referees are also paid for each game they officiated each weekend. It’s a great way to have some fun, give back to the community and make a little extra money on the side. We provide kit of a jersey, shorts, socks, whistle and red/yellow/blue cards.
